by The Ohio Department of Transportation
The goal of this project was to reduce congestion and improve travel time during rush hour from downtown to the east side of Columbus, as part of daily commutes from work to home. This particular stretch of I-670 had one of the worse reliability scores in the whole state. While implementing many features for the first time, ODOT decided for a time and money saving approach including:
- Shoulder Use
- Variable Speed Limits
- Enhanced Incident Management
The result is travel time reductions from a generally unreliable 10-25 minutes range to consistent and reliable 5-6 minutes. Fantastic!
