The 2024 ITS Midwest Conference & Expo (ITSMW24) was a landmark event, bringing together the brightest minds in the field of ITS. Held from September 4-6, 2024, at the Loews Chicago O’Hare, the conference featured an impressive roster of speakers, technical sessions, and unmatched networking opportunities designed to foster innovation and growth in ITS.
We asked Immediate Past President Bini William and Vice President -Illinois (and ITSMW24 Co-chair) Preston Judkins to reflect on their ITSMW24 experience.

Bini, what were your highlights from the event, and how was this experience for you as President?

President meeting exhibitors during ITSMW24Bini: "I have mixed feelings. The 2024 ITS Midwest Conference, which also marked the end of my two-year term as President, has been a fantastic event. I've been volunteering for over ten years, investing many hours into this beloved organization. Instead of feeling nervous speaking in front of 300+ people during the kickoff, all I saw were friends, old and new. And I made even more friends during this conference, and I know that I gained more than what I invested into this organization. This nonprofit organization gave me the opportunity to meet awesome leaders who takes time to mentor others, many kind and thoughtful souls who lift you up, and got to meet most fun, innovative and amazing peers. I am very grateful to my successor Nick Hegemier and Secretary / President Elect Brian Plum for encouraging me to stay involved. I am also so thankful for the support of all the incredible volunteers we could count on to make this event happen.
It also made me incredibly happy to see participants from Arizona and Michigan attending and speaking at this conference. I am very thankful to Cassaundra Rouse (Illinois Tollway), Valerie Briggs (FHWA), Elina Zlotchenko and Govind Vadakpat (ITS JPO) for their presence and support. If you had a blast at the social event, know that it was all Preston, our legendary party planner!"

That's truly inspiring. Preston, can you tell us about your experience at ITSMW24?

Preston: "ITSMW24, what an event it was! It was the largest ITS Midwest Conference of all time with the most speakers, sessions, and exhibitors. Being the co-planner with Jessica Slaton Carroll, and Kevin Price, with site visits starting last November, was incredible. I even had the authority to choose a Chicago-themed gift for the speakers and spread the Jeppson's Malört love."

Both of you mentioned the variety of sessions and the technological advancements discussed. Can you elaborate on that?

Preston: "Absolutely. We enjoyed sessions on the latest technology that improves the use of roadways for ALL. Our Parsons team had a strong presence as the Gold sponsor, which allowed for some face time with co-workers that doesn't happen as often these days. Colleagues from other companies and organizations shared the same experience. This as organizer is also extremely gratifying. The conference wasn't just about professional growth but also about personal connections."

Bini: "We discussed innovative solutions, brainstormed sustainable ideas, listened to experts, watched demonstrations, asked questions, encouraged students, celebrated award-winning projects, provided networking opportunities for small firms and individuals, shared success stories and lessons learned."

Bini: "I'm a bit sad the event is over, but so excited for its future and for the future of ITS Midwest. I can't wait to see everyone again soon! I would like to thank the ITS Midwest Board members, committee members, the corporate sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, moderators, and individuals who attended the conference for making this event a huge success."

Preston: "The voting public elected me to a Vice President role, ensuring that I will continue to bring more shenanigans for years to come. This conference wasn’t just an event; it was a celebration of everything we love about our field and each other. Here’s to more adventures, more innovation, and more moments of joy in the years to come. And for those who couldn't attend, you can get a taste of the event by watching the conference photos
I also would like to thank our incredible exhibitors, sponsors, speakers and everyone who attended, your support made it all possible!"

Thank you both! See you next year in Kentucky for ITSMW25!
