Celebrating Lochmueller Group's second year with ITS Midwest: discover their story, the milestones they have achieved, and their impactful contribution to our organization.
Lochmueller Group is an employee-owned, environmental, and civil engineering consulting firm with 13 offices throughout Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Missouri. Founded by planners in 1980, Lochmueller Group helps improve the quality of life for all communities and clients through thoughtful, actionable planning – planning based on clients’ aspirations and supported by applicable data and the most accurate forecasting tools available. Over the firm’s 40-year history, Lochmueller Group has expanded to encompass a wide range of services in traffic, infrastructure, water resources, and environmental services. Today, clients are assisted each step of the way, from planning through execution.
Lochmueller Group joined ITS Midwest (ITSMW) in 2022. They currently serve three of the four ITSMW states and are looking to expand into the fourth (Ohio). Lochmueller Group is a growing employee-owned (ESOP) company with nearly 400 employees and a family-first culture. In 2023, Lochmueller Group’s Indianapolis office raised $45,000 via employee-owner Dave Lancet’s leadership serving the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Employee-owner Dave Henkel, Lochmueller Group’s Central Indiana Regional Leader and a veteran of the ITS industry and ITSMW, has previously served many years on the ITSMW Board of Directors representing the state of Indiana.
Lochmueller Group’s Traffic Engineering & Planning team focuses on thoughtful planning and design when optimizing access, reducing congestion, improving livability, and meeting/exceeding project budgets. The team, which is notably 45% female, has completed hundreds of studies and designs including many federally funded projects. Successful traffic and transportation planning depends on understanding the relationship between people and transportation systems; our dedicated traffic engineers and planners show clients what influences motorists’ decisions on travel modes and routes.
Since 2018, Lochmueller Group has closely tracked the path of the electric vehicle (EV) and energy infrastructure market. They are also one of the only firms in Indiana currently providing Electric Vehicle Charging Stations infrastructure planning services to local municipalities. As widespread adoption of EV infrastructure grows, Lochmueller Group is leading the way. With their eye continuously focused on the future, Lochmueller Group’s understanding of the energy sector, especially the EV market, is that its rapid evolution and expansion to clean and sustainable fuel sources will eventually mandate change from local, state, and federal agencies. They envision that many of the firm’s service lines will play a role in helping communities transition to these evolving technologies.
